Inception of CIAS

The Coorg Institute of Adventure Sports (CIAS) which is the erstwhile Coorg Adventure Club(CAC), a voluntary body, formed by a few dedicated retired Army Officers and some enthusiastic Planters of Coorg in 1992, with the aim of providing facilities of Adventure Sports and activities to our youth and adults as well. CIAS was registered under Karnataka Societies Act, 1960 (Sec 12), as a Non Government Organization.

Facilities Offered

The youth benefit by exposure to adventure activities at a young and budding age in life. Adventure sports and activities have already caught on in cities and big towns in our country. However people especially youth of Coorg, majority of whom are from rural background were unexposed to such healthy hobbies, since such facilities were lacking. Since its inception, CIAS has taken the initiative in organizing and acquiring the basic infrastructure and equipment for specialised activities. Ever since it has been conducting regular camps and sent children for trekking-cum-nature camp expeditions to far off locations in India, including Andamans, Rajasthan etc. CIAS has also arrangements to send their members, children & adults for specialized courses such as Mountaineering, Rock Climbing, Water sports events training, Para Gliding etc, in some of the prestigious institutions in India.
To satiate the bold and exhubarent lot, Maggula hill top is being prepared as a launching pad for Aero Sports - such as Para Gliding and Hang Gliding, which lies 600 feet above the scenic surrounding plains of Bittangala.

Experience

Organizing events and conducting training camps in various events of specialized Adventure sports requires a degree of involvement and effort. CIAS has gained adequate experience and expertise in organizing Adventure Sports and training camps and has thus established a good track record.

CIAS Membership

CIAS Patron Membership is offered to those interested in promoting adventure sport in Coorg, by a donation of Rs 25,000/- and Life Membership for students and working people by a donation of Rs 5,000/-. Donations to CIAS are exempted from taxes : CIT and KAIT. At present the CIAS is largely funded by its own members as a philanthropic organization, partially supported by Central and State Govts, TATA Coffee Ltd and Coorg Foundation. CIAS has an MOU with Jungle Lodges & Resorts, Bangalore as well.

Organisational Setup

CIAS has a Governing Council headed by a Chairman, who lays down policy decisions and monitors the working and financial control of the Institute. Members of Governing Council are elected from Patron members. CIAS has an Executive Committee, headed by a President and assisted by two Vice-Presidents, Hon-Secretary, Hon-Treasurer and Adventure Sports Directors for various disciplines of adventure sports. The Executive Committee plans, conducts and supervises all the activities.

Additional Facilties

CIAS has started a Recruitment Guidance Center(RGC) to coach eligible candidates for entry into the Armed Forces/Para Military Forces, as other ranks and also in Officers cadre. in a phased manner, benefitting large number of local youth. RGC has been placed under the guidance of senior retired military officer. Tele No : 08274-294285.
CIAS is also working on a project to introduce Nature-cum-Ecology camps on the slopes of Maggula Hills that lies just above and adjacent to our administrative office in Bittangala.
